I have been qualified as a Hearing Therapist since 1994 and worked in the NHS specialising in Tinnitus Management until 2010 when I took early retirement and moved in to private practise

Hearing Therapy & CBT Practitioner

As a dual qualified Hearing Therapist and Psychotherapist, I have a solid rehabilitation background in hearing and hearing loss, the management of distressing tinnitus, hyperacusis - in fact all hearing related issues, and I use Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) for Tinnitus that has a well established evidence base in the published research and leads to excellent Outcomes for my clients.

The 4 main areas of tinnitus in which I work:

Tinnitus Management

  • Over 20 years experience
  • Excellent outcomes for patients
  • All progress measurable through use of validated Qs, for example THI (Tinnitus Handicap Inventory) and TFI (Tinnitus Functional Index) that measure tinnitus distress
  • Includes CBT for anxiety and/or depression where indicated
  • Includes management of hyperacusis when present
  • May include treatment for vestibular related balance problems
  • Appointments in my Clitheroe clinic or online using Zoom Telehealth

Teaching Tinnitus Management

  • My course is the CSTCP (Counselling Skills & Tinnitus Care Pathway) - a 3 module course for Audiologists and in Northern Ireland, to Audiologists and Specialist Sensory Social Workers

  • Courses and workshops in tinnitus management throughout the UK, for example University of Manchester (November 2017)

Medico-legal work

  • Assessment and management of patients referred by solicitors
  • Mainly tinnitus onset following Road Traffic Accidents
  • Criminal court work e.g. breach of Noise Abatement Notices where tinnitus and/or hearing are involved  
  • Expert Witness to the Court in cases involving tinnitus
  • Provision of medico-legal and Court-related reports  

Research

  • I work closely with the NIHR NHBRC (National Institute of Hearing Research Nottingham Hearing Biomedical Research Centre)
  • Evaluation of the Tinnitus E-Programme published 2016-17
  • A psychologically informed, audiologist-delivered manualised intervention for tinnitus (TinMan study) 2016-2019 (Final paper in Peer Review April 2019)
